View this email in your browser Brethren, The Acacia Club is part of the “Middlesex Cares” initiative being rolled out across the Province. It will be a club for Middlesex Masonic widows, wives, and partners to provide them with practical support, social events, and a newsletter. It will neither supersede nor replace existing social groups in the Province, nor the work of Lodge almoners, but will provide a distinctive range of services for their exclusively widows, wives and partners across the Province. Similar clubs to this (principally for widows) operate very successfully in other Provinces, so we are taking that concept and are expanding it. Ultimately the club may have a presence at Twickenham, Harrow and Uxbridge Centres and will be administered by its members, although each branch will have a Middlesex Freemason as their Masonic liaison representative linking back to the Province. This briefing is to explain what the Acacia Club will provide, also, to seek your feedback about it. For example, do you have a wife or partner would she be interested in joining? WHY SET UP THE CLUB, AND WHAT WILL IT OFFER? Masonic widows, wives and partners are sometimes overlooked by the Masonic community, hence links with them will depend upon the proactivity and sociability of the Masonic unit of which their partner is (or was) a member. Some units are more inclusive than others, so wives, partners and (less frequently) widows will join Lodge social events and Ladies festivals etc, resulting in closer links between the Masonic community and their families and widows. The Acacia Club will provide a distinct range of services, including: Signposting for advice and support: A woman is sometimes more comfortable receiving assistance from or talking about their concerns with another woman – particularly in times of emotional stress or loss. To meet that need, the Acacia Club intends to identify and appoint selected members as “Advocates” trained in listening skills to provide support to other members at challenging times – for example following the death of a Masonic husband or partner.  Should an Advocate identify any situation where support from the Masonic Charitable Foundation or the RMBI may be appropriate, they would (with the permission of the member concerned) refer the matter to the Provincial Almoner.   Further support (also provided by Advocates) will be offered to wives and partners of Freemasons who are being looked after at home or in care homes or on an ongoing basis in hospital after diagnosis with chronic long-term health issues, that have left the wife/partner to manage the family affairs alone. This can be a very unsettling time for them.   Social events: Widowed or otherwise, many women don’t feel comfortable socialising on their own, so the club will arrange visits where a woman might not want to go alone but would be happy to go as part of a group. For example, a visit on one’s own to Wisley Gardens, or to a theatre matinee might be out of the question, but it could be a very different matter to go in a group with other women with an opportunity to share and talk about the experience. Meals out (pub lunches etc) may also be provided, especially as a woman on her own will rarely countenance visiting a pub or restaurant alone, yet it might be something she and her husband did together when he was alive, so she misses it. Alternatively, she may still have a husband or partner and just want to go out for lunch with other females. Meetings: Acacia Club members may meet for lunch or tea at the Centres, and such occasions could include guest speakers featuring a range of general subjects of interest, or matters of specific relevance to women and especially women on their own – for example, talks on security issues (scams, email phishing, unwanted phone calls etc) the importance of setting up Lasting Powers of Attorney and making Wills, support available from the MCF or RMBI, health issues etc. Newsletters to link with and inform other members. These would include information on past and future club activities, as well as news from the Province (including upcoming Provincial events) Profile at Provincial events: When the Province holds an internal event with stalls representing Masonic units, there may be a stall for the Acacia Club where members can meet and chat over a cup of tea. That would greatly increase the profile of the club and should encourage new members. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? The Acacia Club is still in the early days of being set up, so this note is to provide members of the Middlesex Province details of it. The next steps will be: To receive feedback from members of the Province. All members of the Middlesex Craft will be contacted with a request that (if they have a wife or partner) they ask them whether they are interested in being a member of the Acacia Club. All Middlesex units will be asked to provide lists of their widows, so they too may be approached about the club. Upon receipt of expressions of interest from potential members, steps will be taken to set up the club. It is most important to note that the Acacia Club will be managed by its members and not by Middlesex Freemasons. Hence Provincial role is to support its formation and then be approached for ongoing support and access to Masonic resources if and when required.We hope you will find this introduction to the Acacia Club helpful, and we welcome all comments or suggestions. Our APGM Paul Sully is taking a (long) walk from Twickenham Masonic Centre, Cole Court TW1 1HD to Freemasons Hall WC2B 5AZ in aid of the London Air Ambulance along with a few willing volunteers on the 1st June 2024 (see flyer below), a total of 20 Miles, however, you could also choose to walk 10 miles or even 5 miles if not up to the full amount of miles.

There is also the opportunity to join in with a Fundraiser Quiz. The quiz is to be held at Twickenham on Wednesday 29th May 2024 at 8pm in Cole Court. The idea is that each Lodge puts up at least one team of up to four of your brightest to take on the Middlesex Armed Forces Lodge. There will be 10 rounds of 10 pictures with associated questions and the whole event will take roughly 1.5 hours. This is purely a fun evening.

Each team participating will (hopefully) sponsor themselves at a cost of £20.00 per team. There will also be a charity raffle on the night to hopefully boost the collection to somewhere near the £1000 mark. Having checked records available to us it would appear that this member never reached Master surprisingly.

The Joining member had been unattached for a number of years having formally been a member of St Clair Lodge 2902 in the Province. Two of the candidates had been introduced by the Provincial Membership Team. Another was the direct result of the Lodge Ladies Festival in October 2023 last October and the other, Charlie Fitzpatrick, whose father is a Greystoke Lodge and Chapter member His grandfather is also a Companion of Greystoke Chapter No 6146 Read the Story    Enfield Lodge Celebrates Installation Of New Master The last duty of any outgoing Master is to appoint his successor, and this W Bro Peter Gillett PPrSGW did with assurance and composure at the Installation meeting of Enfield Lodge No 1237, when he Installed Bro Graham Gathard as Worshipful Master. A particularly poignant moment was when W Bro David Gathard gave the address to the Master, his brother Graham. David had served as Worshipful Master three times, the first occasion being in 2011-12, and as Acting Secretary read the ancient charges to the incoming Master. Bro Paul Serwano Serwamukoko, was initiated into freemasonry in St Clair Lodge 2902 which met at Twickenham. Joel is 20 years of age and currently finishing his final year at Brunel University where he is studying for a Degree in Business Studies. The meeting was honoured by the presence of W. Read the Story    A Special Visitor At the February meeting the members and guests of Albert Duke of York Lodge No 4920 were enthralled by the story of Johnson Beharry’s life and the action which led to him being awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military honour. A guest of the Lodge Treasurer, Jason Gerrard, Sergeant Beharry spoke to the brethren following the meeting. He spoke movingly about his troubled upbringing in Grenada, his move to the UK, where he was involved in drugs and gang culture, and the thing that inspired him to make something of his life by joining the army. Tuesday Feb. 20th 2024 was a special day for Brother Dario Venovski who was invited to attend a very special meeting and installation of a new Master of The Vardar Lodge No.08 in Skopje – North Macedonia.

This was also a special occasion for Brother Dario on a personal level as Skopje is the City he is originally from.

The 2 day event culminated with the main meeting which took place on Feb. 20th. The Installation ceremony and Emulation Ritual were executed flawlessly with over 70 brethren in attendance including the MW Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Macedonia and the Honorary Grand Master of the National Grand Lodge of Romania.

Brother Dario addressed the brethren and stated that it was an incredible privilege and honour to be invited and to be a part of such an event, which just goes to prove that Freemasonry is truly Universal.

All protocols for international visits from Lodges Under the UGLE were strictly observed. Brethren from Lodges inclusive of Romania, Serbia, Germany as well as Türkiye were also in attendance

An interesting detail worth a mention, is that even though organised Freemasonry in Macedonia is new, the direct light for the forming/consecration of the Grand Lodge of Macedonia was given directly by the UGLE which is an enormous privilege and pride for Macedonian Freemasons.

Read the Story   London Wheelpower Sports Festival 2024On Thursday 14th November, 2024, the Middlesex Masonic Sports Association (MMSA) will be arranging and sponsoring an event at the Aspire Leisure Centre in Stanmore where all children aged between 12 and 18, that are wheelchair users and live or go to school in the Province of Middlesex, will be invited to a junior sports camp. With the assistance of the full team at “Wheelpower” (British Wheelchair Sport) coaches, and several paralympians, we will introduce the children to Wheelchair sports such as tennis, basketball, hockey and many others. Events will be held on the track and in the main sports hall. This will be the third time that Middlesex Freemasons, via the MMSA have supported this event. I hope you agree, this will be a wonderful and inspirational opportunity for the children. Read the Story  News from Lodges and Chapters Masonic ExhibitionistsIckenham Village has a week-long Festival every two years in June, which has been attended by the Middlesex Exhibition Team since 2008.Read the Story   With A Cable Tow Around Your NeckStrawberry Hill Lodge No 946 have now received their Nautical Cable Tow (shown above). This is unique to the Lodge, being adorned with their Banner colours. The Cable Tow will enhance future Lodge Initiations for both the Candidate and Lodge Members. Indeed, there is a case for purchasing two, especially for Double ceremonies. The Lodge is planning to use the new cable tow at their meeting on 3rd April 2024.Read the Story   Seeing Out The Old YearRichmond Hill Lodge No 6698 held their regular meeting on Thursday 25th January 2024, which was to be their last meeting in the Lodge’s 75th Anniversary year. It was made special with a double Initiation ceremony for Christopher Britton and Piotr Tomaszewski and by the surprise visit from W. Bro Jim Mitchell PSGD – Provincial Deputy Grand Master, together with W. Bro Bob Rough PSGD – Assistant Provinical Grand Master and . Ian Ferguson – PAGStdB – Assistant Provinical Grand Master. They were accompanied by W. Bro Lloyd Bubb,  Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies. Read the Story   150 Years Of Burdett ChapterBurdett Chapter No 1293 was consecrated on 29th November 1873 and celebrated its sesquicentenary in great style in December 2023 at the Twickenham District Masonic Centre. Burdett was one of the very earliest Chapters consecrated in the then new Province of Middlesex and named in honour of Col. Sir Francis Burdett, the first Provincial Grand Superintendent Read the Story   Jubilant Jubilee ChapterJubilee Chapter No 8822 recently celebrated its 25th Anniversary at the Installation Convocation held on 10th January 2024. There were 67 companions in attendance and the event was marked by an official visit by the 2nd Provincial Grand Principal, E. Comp Peter de Wolfe PAGDC accompanied by the Provincial Escort Team. The attendees included 12 of the original founders and 2 of the consecrating officers. Read the Story   Marking A Masonic MilestoneMiddlesex, October 28th, 2023 – The Cedars of Lebanon Chapter No 4317 recently marked a significant milestone, celebrating 100 years since its establishment. This remarkable centenary, commemorating the Chapter’s establishment on March 2nd, 1923 and its consecration on June 7th, 1923 at the Albany Hotel in Twickenham, was observed with a special Convocation event.
